A cleaning guru has shared a simple way to get rid of unsightly limescale in your kettles – and all you need is one ingredient. The TikTok user that goes by HomeCleaning58 recently shared a compilation of home hacks without the need for harsh chemicals and strenuous labour.
In a video from last week, the cleaner revealed that all you need to help dispel any limescale build up are some lemons. Simply slice up some lemons and place in the kettle with enough water to nearly fill the appliance. Boil the water, before leaving the water to settle for 30 minutes.
This should help the limescale lift and be easy to rinse away. Lemons can help to remove limescale due its citric acid content.
Citric acid works as a natural descaling agent, helping to dissolve mineral deposits and limescale build-up.
Cleaning expert Lynsey Queen of Clean is a massive advocate for the natural cleaning method.
She told Ideal Home: “Both of those work extremely well, and you just pour it away and the limescale bits from the bottom just come away in big chunks, so it’s quite satisfying to see.”
If there’s tough limescale refusing to budge from your kettle’s lid, Purdy & Figg wrote: “Trap a damp cloth that has been soaked in lemon juice in the lid and boil. This way, the cloth will do a lot of the work and all you’ll need to do is scrub with it afterwards.”
The video has already been viewed over 1.4million times, receiving 173,200 likes and 228 comments.
