Remove 'caked on' food and grease from slow cookers without scrubbing in 'half an hour'

Slow cookers can get caked in food and grease due to the long cooking times. Burn stains and crusted-on food rings on the stoneware are some of the most common stains on slow cookers.

Unfortunately, slow cookers need to be cleaned after every use to remove bacteria and food build-up. Food residue and grease can get harder to clean if it’s left in the slow cooker for too long.

Rather than scrubbing and using abrasive cleaners, a Mrs Hinch fan has shared a simple method that takes just 30 minutes and involves no scrubbing.

Mrs Hinch is a cleaning and lifestyle influencer with more than 4.8 million followers on Instagram.

Fans of hers have taken to social media in recent years to share their hacks for solving common household problems such as cleaning slow cookers.

On one such group, Facebook user Maz Horrocks posted: “Hi all, I love all these helpful tips but have never contributed. Sorry if it’s already a ‘thing’ but I made a chicken casserole in my slow cooker at the weekend.

“It was pretty caked up and wasn’t looking forward to scrubbing it so I put two scoops of Oxi Magic in with warm water for half an hour and honestly, it came out so clean!”

Maz’s post was accompanied by a photo of her sparkling clean slow cooker which didn’t contain a single scrap of food.

Facebook user Carole Archibald also said she used the stain remover, commenting on the post, “I use Oxi Magic with mine too”.

The post received lots of likes and comments from fellow Mrs Hinch fans with some members of the group sharing their own tips.

Sue Butler said: “I use slow cooker liners from Home Bargains, no need to wash anything.”

Elaine Hassall Rigby commented: “I always leave mine soaking with boiling water and dishwasher tablet. No scrubbing.”

Sandra Baum replied: “I use slow cooker liners. B&M and other shops sell them.”

Oxi Magic from Clorox is a multi-purpose stain remover powder that removes tough stains from clothing and other fabrics around the home.

There are both liquid and powder versions of the cleaner which can be bought online from eBay or Amazon.
