Reform UK chief Richard Tice slaps down BBC's Victoria Derbyshire in heated Newsnight row

She said: “One of the deputy chairs of the Conservative party Lee Anderson, the MP for Ashfield, said if Reform do pick off a lot of us Conservative MPs at the next election, then we’re going to end up with a Labour Government.

“You claim a Labour Government will be a disaster for the country. So you are making it easier for Keir Starmer to get to Downing Street?”

But Mr Tice hit back: “What I am highlighting to the country is that both the main two parties cannot grow the economy because of their policies.”

Ms Derbyshire interjected: “I am going to stop you there because every question I ask, you are ignoring! I appreciate you have a message to get across. I completely understand that.

“You’re making it easier, are you not, to get Keir Starmer into Downing Street because you are saying you’re going to put a Reform UK candidate in every constituency.”

Mr Tice was not impressed by Ms Derbyshire’s line of questioning, firing back: “That is how democracy works! If you want to be taken seriously, you’ve got to stand everywhere.”

He added: “You have to punish failure, the Tories have broken Britain, we think that Labour will bankrupt Britain. We’re the only party that can save Britain and you have to punish and oust the incompetent failures of 13 years of Tory rule. That is important.

“In business, you don’t reward failure by another contract. You get rid of them. And what the country needs to do.”

Ms Derbyshire replied: “And if people agree with you on that, you must acknowledge that that will mean that Labour, Keir Starmer, will be the prime minister.

Mr Tice said: “Let’s wait and see. That’s how democracy works. I want to shape and influence both main parties by recognising their main policies are wrong and they’ve got to change course and, if not, we’re heading to disaster.”

It comes after Mr Tice warned the country faces “Starmergeddon”, and took aim at Labour’s historic love of raising taxes, taking Britain closer to the EU, and pursuing costly Net Zero policies even more enthusiastically than the Conservatives.

The Reform UK leader blasted Sir Keir’s party for “betraying the working class”, with their support for mass immigration and lower wages and claimed his party was now “the party of the working class”.

He warned that Britain was facing “a catastrophic cocktail of economic incompetence and cultural pillage”, and only Reform UK’s policies of cutting income tax, slashing immigration and abounding Net Zero could “save Britain”.
