The number of women in work has hit a record high of 16 million, after thousands of over-50s returned to employment.
Last year 130,000 older women rejoined the workforce, according to official figures.
The total number of jobs in the economy has now reached almost 37 million, with an extra four million people in work compared with 2010.
Mel Stride, Secretary of State for Work and Pensions, said: “Two million more women in work since 2010, alongside record female employment and job levels, shows our plan is working.”
“As we boost our labour market, help close the gender employment gap and grow the economy, we are delivering the change this country needs.”
“In 2024 our Back to Work plan will build on this record and break down barriers to work.”
Economic inactivity – the number of people who are out of work and not looking for a job – has also fallen by nearly 335,000 since the pandemic peak.
The Back to Work plan aims to provide extra support to 1.1 million people not working.
