Prince William made a brief comment about his estranged brother, Prince Harry, in his latest TV appearance, and a royal expert claims there is a reason behind it. The Prince of Wales gave one of his most personal interviews yet on Hollywood star Eugene Levy’s TV show, The Reluctant Traveller, which aired on AppleTV+.
William talked about his life, his family and how the King and the Princess of Wales’s cancer diagnoses impacted him, while he also touched on his plans for the future. The heir also expressed his hope not to repeat the past when he ascends the throne, saying: “I hope we don’t go back to some of the practices in the past that Harry and I had to grow up in. And I’ll do everything I can to make sure we don’t regress in that situation.” Now, a royal expert has weighed in on why William mentioned his brother in that instance only.
Royal commentator Jennie Bond told the Mirror: “The mention of Harry is indeed fleeting and I think it would be wrong to spend much time talking about it.
“But I suppose it does show that William hasn’t blocked his brother completely from his brain.”
Ms Bond added that the two brothers shared “traumatic childhood and adolescence” after their mother, Princess Diana’s death in 1997 and that will never change despite their ongoing feud.
She said: ” It was only natural for him to include Harry when talking about his childhood, but I don’t think we should read more into it than that.”
The commentator concluded: “On the programme as a whole, I think it was an extraordinary insight into who William really is.
“We all think we know him, at least as a prince, but this was a glimpse behind the mask at the man who will be King.
“The words that screamed out at me were his unequivocal intention to question whether certain aspects of the monarchy are fit for purpose.”
