Royal fans were left surprised last week when Meghan Markle’s new show “With Love, Meghan” aired on Netflix, with very little signs of Prince Harry. In the eight episode series, the Duke of Sussex, 40, appeared just once alongside his wife in the very last episode.
While Meghan, 43, did speak fondly about Harry and their two children Prince Archie, five, and Princess Lilibet, three, throughout the series, the prince’s lack of airtime raised eyebrows among royal fans and critics alike. The Daily Mail’s Alison Boshoff even went as far to say as Harry had become a “spare” in his wife’s new lifestyle, commenting on the very brief cameo he made in the series. She wrote: “So, as Meghan moves to carve out her place in the spotlight, it is hard to avoid the conclusion that Harry has become the ‘spare’ – as he might put it – at least in his wife’s professional life. While she embarks on a new media blitz, appearing on chat shows and walking red carpets, Harry has instead seemingly retreated into domestic obscurity.”
However, while some eyebrows have been raised about this, an insider who worked with Netflix on Meghan’s show revealed that Harry was very much present and supportive of his wife behind the scenes.
The insider also pointed out that Harry did not take the spotlight for one sweet reason, which may also explain his very limited presence in the series.
They told People: “Whenever Harry visited set, he was always super polite and friendly.
“But it was clear he wanted this to be Meghan’s moment to shine.”
While Harry hasn’t been too involved in Meghan’s new business ventures, he has been carrying out plenty of solo work when it comes to charity appearances.
Just last week, the prince – who quit royal life in 2020 – was spotted at The Granada Theatre in Santa Barbara on Saturday, where the One805 Rock for Responders benefit was being held for emergency responders.
Throughout the night, he was seen chatting to first responders from the police and local fire departments.
The dad-of-two, who attended the event dressed in a black blazer and jeans, also joined musicians in singing a guitar for auction, which reportedly sold for £6,900. All proceeds from the event are set to be used to support the mental wellness of first responders in Los Angeles and Santa Barbara, as well as musicians affected by the fires that raged through LA in January, causing thousands of homes to be lost.
