Prince Harry is set to spend his second day in Angola today after landing in the Central African country on Tuesday for charity work. The Duke of Sussex, 40, is in the country to walk across explosive landmine sites like his mother the late Diana, Princess of Wales did for the Halo Trust, a charity he is now patron of.
After arriving in the country yesterday, it was soon clear that his wife Meghan Markle, 43, was not by his side. Instead, the Prince was all smiles as he headed out solo, having flown in from Montecito, California.
While one of the reasons behind Meghan’s absence is likely to be the fact she is staying at home with the couple’s two children Prince Archie, six, and Princess Lilibet, four, there is also another very real reason why Meghan hasn’t joined.
As reported by MailOnline, Harry reportedly wants his charity work with the Halo Trust to be a solo venture.
A source reportedly said: “Halo is really his thing, it means so much to him to be patron and he just wants to keep his work with them to himself.”
It is also believed he does not want his wife to be exposed to any dangers. A source reportedly told MailOnline: “The duke won’t let his wife go to England over security concerns, so there was no chance he’d allow her to go to Angola to walk across landmines.”
The prince, who quit royal life in 2020, is hoping his visit will encourage more donations from the Angolan government, which will help towards clearing the landmines that still exist in the country.
After arriving in Angola yesterday, Harry met with the country’s president João Lourenço, and the CEO of the HALO Trust James Cowan.
It is not known how long Harry intends to stay in the country for.
This is not the first time Harry has walked across landmines to raise awareness, having previously done this in 2019.
This was 22 years after Diana visited the country in 1997 and took the exact same steps.
