Rasmus Hojlund booted the post in frustration after a greedy moment from Alejandro Garnacho on Thursday evening. The Dane put in one of his best individual performance since signing for Manchester United, but he couldn’t get the goal his showing deserved, despite being well-positioned when Garnacho burst forward just before the hour mark.
Hojlund was sharp an unselfish during the second leg of the Europa League quarter-final against Lyon. He consistently brought others into play at Old Trafford, made few mistakes, and created big chances for Bruno Fernandes and Garnacho. The favour wasn’t returned, however, when the equally impressive Garnacho made his way into the box in the 58th minute.
Although the cross appeared to be on, Garnacho went for goal himself and missed the target. And Hojlund was not pleased as he lost his temper and kicked out at the post with the bottom of his boot.
United legend Rio Ferdinand, who was on co-commentary duties for TNT Sports, sympathised with the Dane. “I don’t mind that,” he said. “You need to tell people when you’re not getting what you want. He needs service.”
