A rarely seen royal has relocated to another European country to pursue his interests in film and photography. Prince Sverre Magnus, the 19-year-old grandson of His Majesty King Harald V of Norway, has flown the nest and moved to Italy.
It is believed the prince’s move to Milan, with his girlfriend Amalie, is a result of his desire to learn more about photography. This comes after Sverre, who is the son of Crown Prince Haakon and Crown Princess Mette-Marit of Norway, registered a company called Sverre Magnus Productions earlier this year in Norway.
The news of his recent move to Italy was announced in Norway’s VG news outlet.
The royal court’s press contact reportedly told VG: “The prince is currently in Italy, where he is exploring various opportunities, including in film and photography, with a desire to learn more about this.”
While the King will no doubt be proud of his grandson, this is also likely to come at a hard time for him and the Norwegian monarchy.
This is because King Harald, 88, and Queen Sonja, 88, both now carry out less royal engagements as a result of previous health issues.
Mette-Marit, Sverre’s mum, has also reduced the number of engagements she now carries out temporarily as a result of her lung condition chronic pulmonary fibrosis.
The Royal House of Norway said in a statement last month: “Her Royal Highness Crown Princess Mette-Marit will undergo a month of pulmonary rehabilitation in Norway from the beginning of October.
“The Crown Princess will therefore not carry out official assignments in October, but some exceptions are planned, such as the dinner for the representatives of the Storting at the Royal Palace on October 23. The Crown Princess is scheduled to resume her official work in November.”
The family have also had some recent blows since Princess Märtha Louise of Norway, who stopped royal duties in 2022, and her American husband Durek Verrett released their Netflix documentary Rebel Royals: An Unlikely Love Story.
