Prince Andrew is set to be all smiles this week as it is believed he has won the Royal Lodge row. For years, the Duke of York, 65, has called the £30 million royal mansion in Windsor his home, and has not shown any signs of wanting to relocate.
This is despite the fact his brother King Charles, 76, has reportedly tried his best to get his non-working royal sibling to move to a smaller premises elsewhere to free up the royal home. In a bid to get this to happen, the monarch even removed the security he was privately funding for Royal Lodge, however his brother – who has not been a working royal since becoming involved in a number of shocking scandals – has remained put.
Now, it seems that Andrew has won the row with Charles, and will be staying put at the home he signed a 75-year lease for, agreed by the Crown Estate, in 2003.
This was revealed by The Daily Mail, with Andrew having reportedly shown a lease document that states he is legally entitled to stay there.
It was rumoured last year that the King may have wanted Andrew and his ex-wife Sarah Ferguson to leave Royal Lodge so that Prince William and Princess Kate, along with their three children, could relocate there.
This came after William and his family moved to Windsor in 2022 and set up home at the humble four-bed Adelaide Cottage in Windsor.
It is believed they relocated to the estate from their Kensington Palace home in London to give their children more privacy.
While the family may not call Royal Lodge home if Andrew is set to stay put, it has been widely reported that they may still move to a larger abode on the Windsor estate.
It is believed Fort Belvedere, a Gothic Revival mansion in Windsor Great Park, could become their next home. The property reportedly has a rose garden, a walled garden, a kitchen garden, a large greenhouse, an outdoor swimming pool and a tennis court.
It has been reported that the impressive eight-bed home also has stables, two lakes, paddocks, and three cottages for staff.
A source told the Mail: “They feel they have outgrown Adelaide Cottage and need somewhere more substantial. This is the perfect new home for them. It has a swimming pool and tennis court, and Charlotte loves playing tennis.”
