The silver lining to Igor Shesterkin’s impending placement on season-ending long-term injury reserve is the sizable cap relief the Rangers will get in return — and the possibilities are endless.
Born from the Blueshirts’ early success — at 6-2 overall and an undefeated record on home ice — rookie goalie Dylan Garand and the rest of the team have allowed management to dream big with regards to how they can allocate those funds in their pursuit of returning to the playoffs after a two-season absence.
At this moment, according to a league source, non-goalie options are also being considered and no decisions have been made.
Garand’s continued emergence in net would permit president and general manager Chris Drury to explore bolstering any part of the Rangers lineup. Such as at center, which also took a hit recently after fourth-line center Joe Veleno was ruled out for at least the next month with a lower-body injury.
