Alaric Jackson is expected to appeal his two-game suspension by the NFL.

Los Angeles Rams head coach Sean McVay confirmed Tuesday that his starting left tackle intends to appeal the suspension handed down by the league after Jackson punched Buffalo Bills linebacker Bradley Chubb following Monday night’s stunning 37-34 overtime loss at SoFi Stadium.

“Yes, that’s my understanding,” McVay said when asked whether Jackson planned to appeal.

McVay said his understanding is that Alaric Jackson will appeal his two-game suspension by the NFL.

The incident unfolded near midfield moments after Buffalo’s game-winning field goal, when Jackson and Chubb exchanged words before the Rams lineman delivered a right-handed punch caught on camera.

For McVay, the bigger concern isn’t necessarily the punishment. It’s the troubling decision-making from a player his team desperately needs.

“He has to consistently do a better job,” McVay said. “It certainly doesn’t help us when we’re missing a player of his caliber.”

Jackson, who previously served a two-game suspension in 2024 for violating the NFL’s personal conduct policy, is no stranger to league discipline.

And that’s precisely why this latest incident is so frustrating.

McVay stopped short of condemning Jackson without understanding what triggered the confrontation, acknowledging he didn’t know what Chubb said before the punch.

“I’m not condoning by any stretch of the imagination, but I want to gather all the information before I make comments,” McVay said.

Whatever Chubb said, Jackson’s response could cost his team two games without its starting left tackle, and that’s a considerably bigger blow to a struggling 2-3 team than the punch he threw after the game was over.
