RAF Scampton: Police investigating 'violence' at site housing 2,000 asylum seekers

Police are investigating “reports of violence” at RAF Scampton, the former airforce site used to house asylum seekers.

Lincolnshire Police officers were called to the site following reports of disorder in the early hours of Sunday, February 4, but made no arrests.

The service said in a statement that investigations were continuing at the former base, which is due to welcome a new cohort of asylum seekers in April.

The site will soon be home to approximately 2,000 people, per Government plans, and has become a flashpoint for the UK’s immigration debate.

Campaigners have staged protests outside calling for plans to convert the base to be called off, with historians noting similar objections due to its World War Two links.

Police made several arrests at the site in October 2023, and discovered what investigators suspected was a petrol bomb placed outside.
