Smoothies are an ideal on-the-go breakfast, but many recipes can be overly complex and require a plethora of pricey ingredients. However, one food blogger has devised a straightforward alternative to these healthful beverages. Arman Liew, who shares his culinary creations on The Big Man’s World website, boasts that his “healthy” smoothie is a “quick and filling breakfast that takes minutes to make”.
Comprising merely three ingredients, including bananas, Arman believes it’s also “easy to customise” and provides enough energy to keep you “energised all morning”. Bananas can help provide a healthy breakfast high in fibre and low in salt, fats, and added sugars. While the recipe is uncomplicated, a blender is a crucial tool for achieving a silky smooth beverage.
Banana smoothie recipe
Ingredients
- One large banana
- Half a cup of milk
- One tablespoon of almond butter, or any nut/seed alternative
- One quarter of a teaspoon of cinnamon (optional)
While this recipe serves one, it can be doubled, and any leftovers can be refrigerated for up to two days.
However, they should be stirred again before consumption as the ingredients may separate.
To freeze the smoothie, decant it into an ice cube tray or a shallow container, and it can be stored for up to six months. When you’re ready to have it, just give it another blend.
Method
Although not everyone will have frozen bananas readily available, Armen insists that this smoothie tastes superior with them.
However, fresh fruit can still deliver the same distinctive flavour – but it should be diced first.
Cutting the fruit into smaller pieces facilitates easier blending, though those who favour a chunkier smoothie can leave the banana in larger chunks.
Next, place the fruit and the remaining ingredients in the blender and blend until the desired consistency is achieved.
Armen advises: “For a thicker, ice cream-like smoothie, blend less. If the smoothie is too thick, add more milk. Top with cinnamon and enjoy.”
