A link between two films by Quentin Tarantino has been found by keen-eyed viewers. The Hollywood heavyweight is perhaps best known for his smash-hit film Reservoir Dogs and Academy Award-nominated feature, Pulp Fiction.
A subtle link between the two films has since been found by fans, who spotted a cool detail.
Despite the films not having any overlapping storylines, it appears two of the characters in each film are familiar with one another. One character in Reservoir Dogs, portrayed by the late Michael Madsen, and another brought to life by Hollywood veteran John Travolta in Pulp Fiction, appear to be related.
It is believed there was meant to be more to the storyline, but this never came to be.
A post to the r/TodayILearned Reddit page reads: “Victor Vega (Mr Blonde) from Reservoir Dogs and Vincent Vega from Pulp Fiction are brothers, and a movie was supposed to be made about them.”
Though fans were thrilled by the link between the two characters, they were pleased a film featuring both characters would not have been worth their while.
One user wrote: “It’s a decent idea but I’d rather see more of Jules from Pulp Fiction than any Vega brother. And at this point Tarantino seems to be able to come up with plenty of different concepts to do that don’t rely on his past films for inspiration.
“So it’s best he keeps moving forward rather than revisit past successes.” Tarantino has many unrealised projects, including an adaptation of Star Trek, a remake of Westworld, and Casino Royale.
But a film featuring Madsen and Travolta as criminal brothers was in the works for a time, with Kill Bill star Madsen confirming the project’s existence.
He told Hollywood Reporter: “He [Tarantino] had come up with this idea that it would be the twin brothers of Vic and Vincent, who met after the deaths of their siblings.
“It was very complicated, but when Quentin starts discussing an idea, it’s very easy to go along with it.” Though the film would not be made, Madsen and Travolta would work together on the action film Trading Paint.
During the making of said film, the pair gave a nod to their acclaimed characters, with Madsen adding: “We had a scene where we are at a big retirement party, and I walked up to John and he goes, ‘I thought you were dead.’ And I looked over at him and I said, ‘Well, I thought you were dead.”
Tarantino says he is set to retire from filmmaking after his next film, with his most recent releas being 2019’s Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.
