The Queen’s son continued: “But my mother is strong as well. She supports him in every way. I think it’s wonderful to have someone you love by your side.

“I’m incredibly proud of her. She’s at an age when most people think of retiring, but she never complains; she just gets on with it.”

The interview comes as the Palace announced that the King and Queen Camilla will return to normal royal tours next year, with one anticipated in the Spring and another set to take place in Autumn.

These tours will only go ahead if the King gets the thumbs up from his doctors.

The senior Palace official said: “We’re now working on a pretty normal looking full overseas tour programme for next year, which is a high for us to end on, to know that we can be thinking in those terms – subject to sign off by doctors.

“It is hard to overstate the joy that he takes from duty and service and being in public and seeing those crowds engaging with communities across the spectrum. That really does lift the spirits. You can see that.”

The King is now expected to be resting following his jam-packed royal tour.
