Queen Elizabeth’s Range Rover used to meet President Obama up for sale at £225K

A Range Rover with incredible royal history is now up for auction for an eye-watering £224,850, for anyone that wants a chance to own a bona fide piece of motoring history.

The Loire Blue Range Rover complete with an ivory leather interior was part of the royal household’s fleet between 2016 and 2017.

The pristine motor’s most famous appearance was in April 2016 when it was driven by the then Duke of Edinburgh, accompanied by the Queen to meet the then President Barack Obama and his wife, Michelle Obama, in the grounds of Windsor Castle.

The dark sapphire blue car would have been previously equipped with a hidden police siren, emergency lighting and grab handles to help Her Majesty hop in and out with ease.

A rather unusual selling feature is that the car has the same number plate as when it was used by the late Queen, something that does not typically happen.

Car Salesman Jack Morgan-Jones told Sky News: “Normally, they endeavour to change the registration number when a car has been in royal service, but in this case the reg will stay the same, so there is no doubt in anyone’s mind that this was the car used by the Queen.”

He added: “It’s a lovely thing. It’s one of the most well covered royal cars that was in a royal fleet, including the Obama state visit.”

The motor is up for sale at a whopping £224,850 through Bramley Auctioneers, via auto trader.

The car was registered in 2016, and was snapped up by the Royal Family, before being sold back through the Land Rover dealership network. It is now up for sale again, with just 18,206 miles on the clock.

The listing also states: “The rear entertainment screens were also removed prior to the car being handed over to the Royal Household and were refitted once the vehicle had been removed from service.”

Throughout her life, the Queen was often pictured behind the wheel of a Land Rover.

A bespoke one even carried Prince Philip’s coffin, when he passed away. The Duke of Edinburgh, who died at the age of 99 in April 2021, worked on creating a bespoke hearse from a modified Land Rover to carry his coffin.

Land Rover, now Jaguar Land Rover (JLR), has held Royal Warrants since 1951 after it was first granted by King George VI who had tried an early prototype of the 4×4.
