Queen Elizabeth II big fan of BBC TV show and 'would do impressions' of characters

The late Queen Elizabeth II was reportedly a huge fan of BBC TV show Grange Hill.

She was such a big fan of the show the Queen is thought to have performed a 10 minute sketch based on the characters – complete with impressions. The late royal is said to have wowed guests with the scene at a dinner party in 2008 – after the show had ended.

Grange Hill followed a comprehensive school and featured favourites including Zammo, Roland and Tucker. According to MailOnline, the Queen also loved impressions.

The Queen’s supposed love of Grange Hill was revealed by biographer Gyles Brandreth during a discussion with Rob Brydon on his Rosebud podcast. He explained the Queen became an avid watcher of the show, despite being 51 when the series first aired.

The broadcaster said: “I was told only recently by proper friends of the Queen, that they were – not many years before her death – at a dinner at Windsor Castle with the Queen, Prince Edward, and his wife Sophie, and just two other people.

“And the subject of Grange Hill came up. And the Queen did a routine – a routine lasting 10 minutes on Grange Hill. She played all the characters with the accents as a complete set piece.”

Brandreth surprised comedian Brydon by explaining the late monarch was a fan of his work too. That was down to her love of impressions and impressionists.

Grange Hill aired for the final time in 2008, after almost three decades on the BBC. Last year however, creator Sir Philip Redmond revealed a film was in the works.
