Tom Parker Bowles gave an upbeat assessment of his mother’s recent illness and suggested that the seasonal bug had lingered for so long because she had “worked too hard.”
Queen Camilla 77, revealed last Tuesday that her chest infection was a form of pneumonia, which has forced her to scale back her work schedule over the past month.
She is suffering from post-viral fatigue and is being urged by her doctors to take more time to recover.
But her son said “she’s tough” and was convinced “it will all be fine”.
Asked how the Queen was doing on a recent appearance of The Go-To Food podcast, Mr Parker Bowles said: “There’s no great conspiracy theory or anything. She did the tour, and she caught some sort of awful bug.
“And then before she was well again, worked too hard – as she would want to do.
“But anyway, touch wood, it will all be fine. She’s tough.”
The Queen was first diagnosed with the seasonal bug at the beginning of last month, following her long-haul trip to Australia and Samoa. On doctors’ advice, she has reduced her diary.
Her medics have urged her to take time to rest and recover fully, meaning she’s had to pull out of some royal engagements.
The Queen’s son also revealed that he has received his first invite to spend the festivities with the Royal Family at Christmas this year but he’s “not entirely sure” whether he’ll accept go.
He said: “Usually I spend it with my ex-wife and children… I’m not sure about this Christmas at the moment, very kindly have been invited [to Sandringham].”
