Queen Camilla cancels return to London to be at King Charles's side for prostate surgery

Queen Camilla has cancelled key events to stay at King Charles III’s side as he prepares to receive prostate surgery.

The Queen Consort, 76, has spent the last few days conducting her royal business from Scotland and was due to fly back to London this week.

But she has now cancelled her planned flight back to the city following news that the monarch will require surgery for a benign prostate condition.

She has instead travelled to Birkhall, on the Balmoral estate, to be with her husband.

The King is under doctor’s orders to rest and is not able to undertake strenuous activity.

On Wednesday, January 17, Buckingham Palace announced that the King was diagnosed with an enlarged prostate after he had travelled to Scotland to undertake some royal duties.

Queen Camilla said during an outing to the Aberdeen Art Gallery on the same day that her husband was “fine”.

She said: “He’s fine, thank you very much. Looking forward to getting back to work.”

The Palace is understood to have disclosed his condition as the monarch is keen to encourage other men his age to understand the symptoms and seek treatment if necessary.

The statement read: “In common with thousands of men each year, the King has sought treatment for an enlarged prostate.

“His Majesty’s condition is benign, and he will attend hospital next week for a corrective procedure.

“The King’s public engagements will be postponed for a short period of recuperation.”

The statement has reportedly had the desired effect, with tens of thousands more people having checked the symptoms of benign prostate enlargement (BPE) since Wednesday.

According to the NHS, visits to its prostate enlargement information page exploded 11-fold after the news broke.

The organisation reported 16,410 searches on January 17, compared to just 1,414 the day before.
