Psychologist simple clock hack that can change your mood

There are five things to do before it hits 7am and if you start doing them, you may notice a change in your mood and overall energy levels.

So what are they and is it worth actually waking up a bit earlier? According to Silvia Severino, a psychologist and social media educator, making the small change can make the difference between a chaotic day and one with purpose and direction. And whilst losing out on an extra five minutes in bed is a lot, especially if you have a lot going on, it could be worth giving it a go.

Taking to TikTok under the username @silviaseverinopsico, the psychologist urges people to wake up correctly and “with a purpose.” This doesn’t mean you need to wake up with a grand plan and a beaming smile, but you should think about the day ahead and have a general plan of what you want to achieve.

So what else does she share?

  1. Wake up with a purpose. Do not start your day without any purpose or initiative. Before getting out of bed, take a moment to think about your goals and what you want to achieve on that day. Above all, be thankful for the new day.
  2. Move, even if it’s just for five minutes. Your body has been at rest for many hours, so give it a signal for activation.
  3. Hydrate yourself as a priority. After sleeping, your body needs water to activate. Some people drink a glass of water with lemon, while others just drink a glass of water to start their metabolism and wake up from within.
  4. Avoid your cell phone first thing in the morning. If the first thing you do upon waking up is check social media, the world is controlling your mind. Start the day with yourself before connecting to the outside.
  5. Dedicate five minutes to your mind. Take a moment to visualise what you have to do, make some small positive statements, or engage in quick meditation.

These habits will help you start the day clearly and objectively, preventing you from reacting randomly, she said. Not only will you feel better for it, but you will look back and be glad you set your alarm for slightly earlier.
