PS5 State of Play taking place hours before Switch 2 launch – Date, time and how to watch

Sony has announced plans to hold a big State of Play event, where it will showcase a selection of PS5 games.

The next PlayStation State of Play event will take place at 10pm BST UK time on the evening of June 4. That’s just a couple of hours before the release of the Switch 2.

PlayStation fans can watch the entire event live on YouTube and Twitch, or by clicking play on the video embedded below.

According to a Sony Blog post, the State of Play will run for around 40 minutes and will focus on PS5 releases.

“State of Play returns June 4!” reads a Sony post. “Watch live for news and updates on must-play games coming to PS5.

“The show highlights a selection of great games from creators across the globe.”

Sony has also issued a warning to streamers and content creators ahead of the broadcast.

The show will contain copyrighted content such as licensed music that PlayStation doesn’t control. As such, licensing agreements outside of Sony’s control could “interfere with co-streams or VOD archives of this broadcast”.

Sony recommends omitting any copyrighted music for content creators hoping to archive the material.

In terms of what fans can expect, Sony is almost certain to preview upcoming exclusive Ghost of Yotei.

The action adventure game takes place roughly 300 years after the events of Ghost of Tsushima.

“Become a different kind of ghost and witness a bold new story set against the stunning backdrop of northern Japan’s rugged landscapes,” reads the official description.

“Taking place 300 years after the critically acclaimed Ghost of Tsushima, this standalone experience follows a haunted, lone mercenary named Atsu in the 1600s. Thirsty for revenge, she sets out to hunt down those who killed her family many years prior.”

With Death Stranding 2 launching in June, Sony is almost guaranteed to show off the upcoming sequel during the event.

Don’t be surprised if previously announced games like Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet and Marathon also show up during the presentation.

Recent rumours have suggested Capcom is about to announce Resident Evil 9. While it was tipped to appear at the Summer Game Fest, there’s a chance it could debut at the State of Play instead.

I’ll also be crossing my fingers for the long rumoured Bloodborne remake.
