PS5 Pro fans slam Sony for ‘absolutely ridiculous’ Hyperpop decision

The opportunity to revamp your PlayStation 5 console and controller with dazzling, radiant-coloured covers is one you shouldn’t pass up. But there’s a catch depending on what console you own.

Sony started 2026 by launching the HYPERPOP collection, including covers and new dualsense controllers. Featuring Techno Red, Remix Green, and Rhythm Blue looks, they offer a new way to freshen up your gaming set-ups. Each design showcases a vibrant, neon shade that gradually transitions into black at the top, resulting in a rather stylish look with a glossy finish.

“[These designs are inspired] by the glow of the RGB lights of your impressive gaming setups,” Leo Cardoso stated on the PS Blog.

Sae Kobayashi added: “A seamless gradient wraps around the front and back of the DualSense, finished in a high-gloss coat that makes the colors POP more than ever. The console covers are also getting the same glow-up, featuring a subtle hint of transparency.”

However, it appears these covers are only compatible with standard PS5 consoles. It means that those who own a PlayStation 5 Pro, are excluded, reports the Mirror.

Gamers quickly took to social media to express their reactions to this news, with one commenting: “Really? You’d think making plastic covers for all three of your machines wouldn’t be difficult.”

Another chimed in: “Shock, PlayStation 5 Pro users get the short end of the stick once again,” while a third added: “Absolutely ridiculous. I was looking forward to getting these for my PS5 Pro, and now I can’t!”.

PlayStation has previously released covers for the Pro model, most recently the stunning Ghost of Yotei style, so it’s certainly within their capabilities.

How to pick up the HYPERPOP PS5 collection

PS5 owners keen to grab the covers and matching controllers will have to shell out, however. The covers are going on sale for an RRP of £64.99 and the DualSense wireless controllers are set to be priced at £74.99.

The collection will be available on March 12. Pre-orders open on January 16 at 10am via the PlayStation direct website and participating retailers.

While PS5 Pro players have to deal with disappointment for the time being, if more fans voice their dissatisfaction about HYPERPOP not being available for all consoles, it wouldn’t be a stretch for Sony to reconsider this decision and release additional versions
