PS5 gamers running out of time to play best action game since Dark Souls

Nioh and Nioh 2 are some of the best Soulslike games ever made, which is why we’re really excited to play the upcoming sequel, which is pencilled in for a 2026 launch.

Despite not launching until next year, Nioh 3 developer Team Ninja recently released a free demo for fans to check out on PS5.

Unfortunately, however, the Nioh 3 Alpha demo is only available for a limited time, and will be removed from the PlayStation store later this week.

Indeed, if you want to check out one of the best action games since the likes of Dark Souls and Elden Ring, then you can play the demo until June 18.

The PlayStation exclusive Nioh 3 Alpha demo gives players the chance to try two different fighting styles. Likewise, fans can check out the character creation system.

Once you’ve created your character, you’ll be able to play an early slice of the highly anticipated action game.

Once the demo has come to an end, players can leave feedback, which Team Ninja will use to make improvements to the game.

Team Ninja explains more: “The Nioh 3 Alpha Demo is available for a limited time until 18th June 2025.

“The free demo allows players to try out the new Samurai and Ninja gameplay styles, providing an early look at the game, including an in-progress character creation system.

“Players are invited to enjoy the final weekend of this demo and provide feedback through a survey on the official game website upon completion.”

In addition to providing feedback for the final release, fans who manage to clear the demo will unlock an exclusive helmet for use in the final game.

Clearing the demo will also unlock a special helmet to use in Nioh 3’s full game upon release.

Nioh 3 is currently in development for PlayStation 5 and Steam, where it will release simultaneously.

It’s worth noting that the Nioh 3 Alpha demo can only be played online. Once June 18 rolls around, the demo can’t be downloaded or played.

The upcoming sequel is said to take place on an “open field that challenges you to the fullest”.

“This game features an open field filled with the sense of tension characteristic of the Nioh series while also allowing you to explore to your heart’s content.

“In this dark samurai world, you will encounter formidable yokai, explore menacing villages where darkness lurks, and struggle against the ominous presence of the Crucible.”

The Saumurai and Ninja styles can be switched between in an instant. The Samurai style is useful for taking down heavily armoured foes, while the Ninja style is faster and full of special techniques.
