PS Plus warning – Millions affected by big changes coming to PlayStation Plus

Sony has announced plans to make big changes to PlayStation Plus subscriptions.

At the time of writing, subscribers to the PS Plus Essentials tier receive three free games each month. This typically includes a couple of games that are playable on both PS4 and PS5.

However, in a move that will affect millions of subscribers, Sony has confirmed that PS4 games will no longer be included in the monthly line-up from January 2026.

According to the wording of a recent Sony statement, the monthly offerings will shift away from PS4 and focus on PS5 games.

This means that while occasional PS4 and cross-platform games will join the line-up, the majority of games will be PS5 only.

Sony explains more: “As many of our players are currently playing on PS5 and have shifted toward redeeming and accessing PS5 titles from the Monthly Games and Game Catalog benefit, PlayStation Plus is also evolving with this trend and will focus on offering PS5 titles through the Monthly Games and Game Catalog benefit starting January 2026.

“As we shift to PS5, PS4 games will no longer be a key benefit and will only be occasionally offered for PlayStation Plus Monthly Games and Game Catalog starting January 2026.

“We may still provide titles that can be playable on both PS4 and PS5 consoles after this date.”

Sony points out that the changes won’t affect any PS4 games already redeemed by subscribers, which means you aren’t about to lose any of your old titles.

Likewise, PS4 games will continue to be included in the PS Plus Extra Game Catalog, at least until they leave the library.

The news comes just moments after Sony announced the next batch of PS Plus Essentials for February 2025.

Available from the morning of February 4, the new games are headlined by PS5 release Payday 3.

The multiplayer heist game will be joined by High on Life, as well as Pac-Man World Re-Pac.
