PS Plus vs Xbox Game Pass – Sony scores a rare win for PlayStation Plus

Microsoft’s Xbox Game Pass subscription service finished 2024 with a bang, following the release of high-profile titles like Indiana Jones, Black Ops 6 and STALKER 2.

This is in contrast to a few underwhelming months of PlayStation Plus releases for Essentials subscribers.

However, in the battle between Xbox Game Pass and PlayStation Plus for January 2025, Sony has scored a rare victory.

Available from now until the beginning of February, the PS Plus games feature a combination of high-profile releases and critically-acclaimed titles.

This includes Suicide Squad Kill the Justice League, which launched less than a year ago for PS5.

Featuring a team of anti-heroes such as Harley Quinn and Deadshot, Suicide Squad launched to mediocre reviews and poor sales less than a year ago.

While the live service elements are poor, the campaign itself is definitely worth a playthrough, especially now that it’s on PS Plus.

Suicide Squad is joined by The Stanley Parable: Ultra Deluxe, which is an excellent narrative-driven indie game with countless endings.

The third and final game is Need for Speed Hot Pursuit Remastered, which is a critically-acclaimed open-world racing game developed by Criterion Games.

Things aren’t quite so rosy on Xbox Game Pass, which adds games like Lightyear Frontier, My Time at Sandrock, Robin Hood – Sherwood Builders and Rolling Hills on January 8.

The aforementioned releases will be joined by EA Sports UFC 5 on January 14.

Arguably the highlight of the month, EA Sports UFC 5 even comes with the Bruce Lee Bundle, although only for a limited time.

Also available on January 14 is the original Diablo, although sadly it’s only available for PC Game Pass subscribers.

Return to the legendary town of Tristram in Diablo, the groundbreaking action-RPG that defined the genre,” reads the official description.

“With its satisfying progression, deep character customisation, and intense battles, Diablo delivers an unforgettable journey through a dark gothic fantasy world.”

Fingers crossed Xbox Game Pass offers up something better towards the end of January.
