PS Plus vs Xbox Game Pass for June 2025 – can Sony secure a rare win for PlayStation Plus

NEW PLAYSTATION PLUS EXTRA AND PREMIUM GAMES FOR JUNE…

Releasing on June 17, the next wave of PlayStation Plus games are headlined by brand new first-person shooter FBC: Firebreak, which is a standalone game set in the Control universe.

The game is described as a co-operative shooter set in Control’s federal agency, where players team up to push back the otherworldly forces trying to take over.

Teams of three will need to work together to take down hordes of enemies, all the while completing objectives and upgrading gear.

FBC: Firebreak will be joined by EA first-person shooter Battlefield 2042, as well as Five Nights at Freddy’s: Help wanted 2, The Hunter: Call of the Wild, We Love Katamari Reroll + Royal Reverie, Eiyduen Chronicles: Hundred Heroes, Train Sim World 5 and Endless Dungeon.

It’s another disappointing month for PS Plus Premium, as Deux Ex: The Conspiracy is the only game joining the line-up. While it’s a very good game, subscribers paying extra would likely expect more.

NEW GAME PASS RELEASES FOR JUNE…

Over on the Xbox side of the fence, Game Pass adds nine games to the service between June 5 and June 17, followed by even more games during the second half of the month.

Baldur’s Gate and Baldur’s Gate II: Enhanced Editions joined the service earlier this month, followed by Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine – Master Crafted Edition, Barbie Project Friendship and Kingdom: Two Crowns.

Arguably the biggest release so far this month is EA Sports FC 25, which actually joins Xbox Game Pass later today.

Next up is the day-one release of The Alters on June 13. This brand new release is described as a “sci-fi survival game”, where you play as a human stranded on a hostile alien planet.

Players will be able to create alternative versions of the main character Jan, who will need to gather resources and overcome various moral dilemmas. It sounds like an interesting twist on the survival formula.

Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time and Lost in Random join Xbox Game Pass on June 17, alongside FBC: Firebreak, which is also coming to Xbox Game Pass.

AND THE WINNER IS…

Unlike previous months, June is a much closer battle between Xbox Game Pass and PlayStation Plus, not least because FBC: Firebreak is launching as a day-one release for both services.

However, while FBC: Firebreak is the only brand new game coming to PS Plus this month, Xbox Game Pass subscribers will also be able to play The Alters at launch on June 13.

Early impressions of the sci-fi action game have been extremely positive, which means Microsoft may have another hidden gem on its hands.

Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine – Master Crafted Edition is also a day-one release, albeit it’s a remaster of an older and well thought of game.

Elsewhere, Battlefield 2042 and EA Sports FC 25 received relatively poor review scores, but the fact that EA FC 25 is less than a year old while Battlefield launched all the way back in 2021 (and can often be purchased for peanuts) means the football sim is better value.

With more Xbox Game Pass titles still to be announced for June, the sheer quantity of new releases also works in Microsoft’s favour, which is why Xbox Game Pass once again wins the battle against PS Plus, but barely.
