A new set of PS Plus Extra and Premium games are on the way for August 2025. Headlined by the likes of Mortal Kombat 1 and Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered, the next batch of PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium games will be released on August 19. Retro gaming fans will also be able to play some classic Resident Evil games with a Premium subscription.
Unfortunately, however, it’s not all good news, because a fair few PS4 and PS5 games will also be leaving PS Plus Extra on the same day, including a former game of the year winner with a whopping 92% score on Metacritic.
Indeed, PS Plus Extra subscribers are running out of time to play The Witcher 3 Wild Hunt, which is leaving the service on August 19.
The action RPG takes place in a beautiful open-world setting, and features some of the best branching missions in recent RPG history.
The lush landscape, excellent writing and overall attention to detail was enough to see The Witcher 3 be crowned Game of the Year at the 2015 Game Awards. (I would have probably picked Bloodborne, but you can’t argue too much with the result.)
Not only is The Witcher 3 leaving PS Plus Extra on August 19, but action-packed adventure game Star Wars Jedi Survivor is also on its way out this month.
The sequel to Star Wars Jedi Fallen Order, Survivor improved on many aspects of its predecessor, featuring stronger visuals, better level design and tweaks to combat.
Other games leaving include Wild Hearts, RIDE 5, Sword Art Online: Last Recollection, Sword Art Online: Sword Art Online: Alicization Lycoris, Sword Art Online: Fatal Bullet, Sword Art Online: Lost Song, Sword Art Online: Hollow Realization and Naruto to Boruto: Shinobi Striker.
That’s on top of Vacation Simulator and PS5 launch title Bugsnax, which is a wonderful cozy game with plenty of charm.
Some regions will also lose high-profile sports games such as EA Sports UFC 25 and Top Spin 2K25. The latter is currently discounted as part of the latest PlayStation sale for fans who want to keep playing.
As for the August 2025 additions, Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered is undoubtedly the pick of the bunch.
One of the best superhero games since the Arkham trilogy, Spider-Man Remastered sees Peter Parker battle a variety of villains in an open-world setting. Not only is it one of the best looking PlayStation exclusives, but it’s also enormously fun to play, featuring an intuitive web-slinging mechanic and chaotic combat encounters.
Other games joining PS Plus Extra in August include Mortal Kombat 1, Sword of the Sea, Earth Defense Force 6, Atelier Ryza 3 Alchemist of the End & the Secret Key, Unicorn Overlord, Indika, Harold Halibut and Coral Island.
Over on PS Plus Premium, subscribers can play the original Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 3 Nemesis. Premium subscribers can also play 5-hours of Death Stranding 2: On the Beach as part of the Game Trial scheme.
