PS Plus scores rare win over Xbox Game Pass and it's all thanks to one game

Microsoft and Sony have both unveiled the new games joining their respective subscription services for July 2025.

The first wave of Xbox Game Pass titles are headlined by Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3+4, which launched as a day-one release on July 11.

Sony also has a day-one release for PS Plus, adding unique survival game Abiotic Factor to the service on July 15.

However, it’s the early release of another hugely popular game that has seen Sony earn a rare victory over Xbox Game Pass for July 2025.

In a surprise announcement, Sony confirmed that Cyberpunk 2077 would join PS Plus Extra on July 9.

Despite a disastrous launch that almost ruined developer CD Projekt’s reputation, Cyberpunk 2077 has gone on to become one of the very best games of the decade.

The release of countless updates, not to mention the Phantom Liberty expansion in 2023, has seen Cyberpunk 2077 gain ‘Overwhelmingly Positive’ recent reviews on Steam.

Cyberpunk 2077 is an open-world role-playing game from the creators of The Witcher 3.

“Set in Night City, a megalopolis obsessed with power, glamour and body modification, you play as V, a mercenary outlaw going after a one-of-a-kind implant that is the key to immortality,” reads the official description.

“Customise your character and playstyle as you take on jobs, build a reputation, and unlock upgrades. The relationships you forge and the choices you make will shape the story and the world around you. Legends are made here. What will yours be?”

Speaking of excellent reviews, Abiotic Factor also has Overwhelmingly Positive feedback on Steam, which only adds to Sony’s superb month for PS Plus releases.

The game is described as a “survival crafting experience for 1-6 players set in the depths of an underground research facility”.

Faced with a paranormal containment failure, as well as a military crusade and threats from other realms, players are tasked with surviving against the universe’s biggest threats.

Abiotic Factor joins PS Plus Extra as a day-one release on July 22.

In the meantime, PS Plus Extra Extra subscribers will be able to play Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden, Bluey: The Videogame, Planet Zoo, Risk of Rain 2, Tropico 6 and New World: Aeternum from July 15. Premium games include Twisted Metal 3 and Twisted Metal 4.
