Proof that Nintendo Switch 2 needs to happen sooner rather than later

With franchises like Mario, Zelda and Pokemon, it’s unusual for Nintendo exclusives not to appear in end of year top ten lists.

However, that’s exactly what happened when looking back at the best games of 2024, which didn’t contain any Nintendo Switch exclusives.

Nintendo released lots of Switch exclusives in 2024, but few received the same kind of critical and commercial acclaim as the likes of Tears of the Kingdom, Mario Odyssey, Super Mario Bros. Wonder and Animal Crossing New Horizons.

The only game that came close was Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door, which is a remaster of the classic Gamecube RPG.

Other games like Princess Peach Showtime were underwhelming, while The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom was good, but not an all-time classic.

It’s proof that the Nintendo Switch may have run its course, and that Nintendo needs to hurry and release the Switch 2.

Judging by recent rumours, it sounds like the Switch 2 is ready to go, we’re just waiting for Nintendo to make an announcement.

According to a recent leak, the console will be called the Nintendo Switch 2, which does come as something of a surprise.

In addition to being more powerful than the current system, the console is also said to have some additional functionality.

The Joy-con controllers will reportedly feature magnetic hall effect joysticks, which should eliminate stick drift.

The console will allegedly launch in dark grey, although further colours may also be available.

According to previous leaks, the new console is reportedly larger than the current model, with a smaller bezel for more screen space.

There’s a good chance the upcoming Metroid Prime sequel could launch as a cross-generation title for both the Switch and its successor.

Nintendo has done this with games like Twilight Princess back on the Gamecube and Wii, as well as Breath of the Wild on the Wii U and Nintendo Switch.

Speaking of Breath of the Wild, there are reports that Nintendo showcased the power of the Switch 2 with a demo for the highly-rated Legend of Zelda release.
