Professional cleaners always do 5 things when cleaning their own homes

Keeping your entire home clean can sometimes feel like an impossible task. While the usual jobs of hoovering and laundry are built into routine, undertaking a whole home deep clean can be daunting.

However, if you want to ensure that your home stays shining all year round, it isn’t impossible. You just need to follow the routines of professional cleaners who always do  five things to make sure that their spaces are clean – and they don’t get overwhelmed in the process. Sandy Willis, a Molly Maid owner, spoke to Southern Living about her  cleaning routine and how she keeps her space clean without becoming stressed.

Split up tasks

The first thing Sandy does is split up the maintenance of her home throughout the week. She sets aside time for more intensive cleaning and breaks it up with smaller, easier tasks like hoovering and dusting throughout the week. For example, once a month, she will set aside a day for a full deep clean, but throughout the rest of the month she will still pick up smaller tasks so that deep clean doesn’t feel so daunting.

Use zones

Go through your home and break it into zones or tasks. Sally said: “This zoning strategy prevents burnout and ensures each area gets the attention it deserves.

“It typically takes me about two weeks to complete the whole process, dedicating a few hours every week to a specific zone or task.”

Prioritise

When you do decide to get a deep clean going, it can be helpful to prioritise tasks. Sally does this by focusing on the aspects of cleaning that have a health impact for her family, for example deep cleaning dusty carpets or high touch areas like door knobs and kitchen surfaces.

She said: “I believe many people might not consider the importance of cleaning these areas regularly, but they can harbor a significant amount of dust and allergens.”

Set goals for yourself

Deep cleans can be a real slog, but if you have a goal in mind that you want to achieve, you can get a sense of reward when you finish. If you set yourself a goal of completing one room, and reward yourself with a treat afterwards, it feels more like an achievement. Sally also said that listening to music or a podcast when you clean can make it feel more like fun and less like a chore.

Take tips from the experts

Although you might not be a professional cleaner yourself, that doesn’t mean you can’t take inspiration from them. Using professional grade cleaners and tools will make a big difference, and by using the methods the experts use you may find that cleaning your home becomes significantly easier.
