Kate, the Princess of Wales, was once gifted a special birthday present by the late Queen Elizabeth – one which was given to her on one condition.
To mark her milestone 40th birthday in January 2022, the late Queen reportedly made a “particular fuss” over the now-Princess of Wales.
In honour of the special occassion, the late monarch was “extremely generous” and gifted Kate some jewels from her own private collection.
A source has said: “Her Majesty was extremely generous on Kate’s birthday, and gifted her with some jewels from her collection, which we’ll no doubt see her wearing at special occasions in the near future.
“But there was one very special diamond set that brought tears to Kate’s eyes – the Coronation Necklace and Earrings.”
An insider told the publication that the late Queen also requested to speak to Kate privately.
She reportedly requested that the then-Duchess of Cambridge would promise to wear the Coronation set when her husband Prince William “is crowned”.
The necklace and pear-shaped earrings are owned by the Crown so they aren’t any one monarch’s personal possession.
The source told New Idea: “It is very dear to the Queen, who wore it at her own coronation, as did her mum, the Queen Mother, and her grandmother, Queen Mary, when their husbands became King.
“The Queen told Kate it’s only right that she is the next Queen to wear them.”
Royal author Philip Dampier confirmed to New Idea that the Queen “would have given her a special present for her 40th birthday”.
The Coronation set was commissioned by Queen Victoria in the 1850s.
Speaking of Kate’s special gift was a beautiful touch as she is a “huge fan” of the late Queen Victoria.
According to one source, Princess Kate will be marking her birthday in quietly in Windsor today.
The source stated that this is due to her three children – Prince George, 10, Princess Charlotte, eight, and Prince Louis, five – all set to start back at school very soon.
They added that the day will be celebrated in the presence of her family, stating that this is “just the way she likes it”.
