Princess Kate has long been a defining force in fashion and is now seeing her influence extend into interior design. The Princess of Wales’ signature style goes beyond clothing as her elegant, character-rich aesthetic is quietly making its way into ordinary homes.

Experts say the royal’s approach is striking a chord as more people move away from stark minimalism, embracing interiors that feel warm, timeless, and full of personality. In recent years, ultra-modern spaces and concrete-heavy garden designs, often inspired by shows like Love Island — dominated trends, frequently at the expense of comfort and individuality.

Now, Terry Fisher of We Buy Any Home says there’s a clear shift toward homes that feel more personal, inviting, and truly lived-in.

While few official photos exist of Adelaide Cottage, the residence of Prince William and Princess Kate, reports and royal insiders describe the interiors as elegant yet understated.

The royal home is said to blend classic British charm with modern comfort, and is believed to retain several of its original 19th-century features.

Their Norfolk retreat, Anmer Hall, also showcases a classic country aesthetic, with gentle floral prints, antique-style furnishings, warm colour palettes, and cosy, layered textures throughout.

Want to bring a royal touch to your space? Here are three simple steps to recreate Princess Kate’s signature style at home.

Countryside Aesthetic:

To create a countryside aesthetic on a budget, start by layering your space with textiles like floral cushions, linen throws, and neutral-toned pillows to add warmth and softness.

Add charm with vintage-style artwork or botanical prints, which you can often find second-hand or print yourself inexpensively.

Charity shops and antique markets are great for sourcing rustic pieces like wooden frames, ceramics, or distressed furniture — perfect for adding character without overspending.

Princess Kate would no doubt approve, as she’s a known supporter of sustainability and timeless, thoughtful design.

Traditional choices over modern:

The home expert said: “Kate’s style at Anmer Hall is the perfect example of this. It’s elegant and polished, but still feels homely and real. There’s antique wood, muted prints, worn-in textures – it looks curated over time, not like it came from a showroom.”

Mr Fisher says you don’t need a royal budget to achieve a similar look, either. “Start with warm neutrals on the walls – soft cream, muted sage or dusty rose,” he continued.

Before adding: “Vintage markets or second-hand shops are great for finding one-off pieces that bring character – like an old wooden sideboard or a carved mirror. These little details instantly elevate a space and create that heritage feel.”

Creating a layered, lived-in look:

Mr Fisher explains that a key element of Princess Kate’s interior style is the art of layering — blending different fabrics, patterns, and textures to create a space that feels relaxed and welcoming.

“You’ll notice it’s not matchy-matchy — there’s velvet, linen, wood and metal all working together,” he said. “That kind of layered design feels very current again, and it’s what buyers are drawn to because it gives a home personality.”

He also pointed out that this approach is highly achievable and instantly adds warmth to a space, adding: “It’s not about spending a fortune — it’s about making smart choices that make your home feel cosy, loved and lived in.”
