Princess Kate's sassy five-word response to being mistaken for Prince William's assistant

The Princess of Wales once had a very sassy response after being mistaken for Prince William’s assistant.

Prince William and Princess Kate – who is currently taking time away from royal duty after undergoing abdominal surgery last month – were introduced to resident Joan Drew-Smith during a visit to Shire Hall Care Home in Cardiff.

The couple’s visit to the home took place three months after they spoke to staff and residents via video link and called out the numbers for their weekly bingo session.

During the visit, which occurred in 2020, 87-year-old Joan pointed to Kate and asked William: “Is that your assistant?”

Onlookers were highly amused by the comment, but Princess Kate handled it with her true down-to-earth style.

The 42-year-old jokingly told her husband: “Well, I am your assistant. I have been for a long time!”

The Princess is known for her quick and witty responses. On one occasion she was told she was lucky to have Prince William.

After a friend called her lucky, a smiling Kate simply replied: “He’s lucky to have me.”

Princess Kate has not been seen publicly since Christmas Day after undergoing planned abdominal surgery in London on January 16.

During his wife’s hospital stay – which lasted almost a fortnight – Prince William also stepped back from royal duty to focus on looking after their three children.

William, 41, was granted permission by the King to not have to return to duty until after his wife was “settled” at home.

Whilst Kate stayed at The London Clinic in London, the father-of-three remained at the family home in Windsor with Prince George, 10, Princess Charlotte, eight, and Prince Louis, five.

The Prince of Wales returned to duty earlier this month, having attended the BAFTAs without his wife last week.

Despite continuing her recovery, Princess Kate joined William and their children in Norfolk earlier this month.

The family-of-five are known to enjoy family time during the children’s school half-terms.

Princess Kate, who was previously said to be “doing well”, is not set to return to royal duty until “after Easter”.
