Princess Kate wowed royal fans across the world on her wedding day in 2011 as she stepped out in a regal yet modern dress, perfect for a future Queen.
Millions were taken aback by the hand-crafted outfit, designed by Sarah Burton of the Alexander McQueen fashion house, with the dress, made with French Chantilly and English Cluny lace, believed to have cost £250,000.
However, while people across the world caught a good look at her official wedding dress, only a few people got to see the second outfit chosen by the princess for her special day, according to The Mirror.
This second dress, which was worn to her private wedding dinner at Clarence House after a reception held by the late Queen at Buckingham Palace, was designed by one of her favourite designers Alexander McQueen, and was worn with a white fluffy cardigan.
Royal expert Miranda Holder said: “Having a second option allows these blushing brides a moment to fully express who they really are, how they want to look – and more importantly feel – once the initial formalities of the ceremony and official photographs are over.”
Miranda went on to tell The Express that Kate’s second dress was “scaled down in terms of grandeur” and did not have an “enormous train” like the first.
Princess Kate, now 42, is not the only bride to have opted for an outfit change on her big day.
Meghan Markle was also seen to have worn two dresses for her 2018 wedding celebrations in Windsor, with one for the official ceremony and another for the wedding reception.
Her official wedding dress was designed by her close friend British fashion designer Clare Waight Keller, while her second was a Stella McCartney piece made from lily white silk crepe.
