Princess Kate's inner circle 'has shrunk' as she prepares to become queen

Princess Kate’s inner circle has “shrunk” over the last few years as she “prepares to be queen”, a royal commentator has said.

Kinsey Schofield claims that the Princess of Wales is focused on raising her children as her main job.

She said: “The Princess of Wales is stoic, stays above the fray, and focuses on her job … which is serving the public and raising her children.

“While I am confident that she will continue to prioritise motherhood, we can look forward to her becoming a much bigger part of the royal agenda.”

The Princess of Wales received criticism for only completing 123 engagements in 2023 – fewer than the 79-year-old Duke of Gloucester, who carried out 172 engagements.

But Ms Schofield said this is an intentional choice, adding: “I believe we are seeing Catherine prepare to be queen in the stance she’s taken to be more hands-on with her children.

“That is a confident choice she made. She has faced a significant amount of criticism over it and she refuses to change course.

“Catherine’s circle has become increasingly smaller over the last decade and spending time with people she can count on is crucial as she starts a new year.”

Princess Kate turned 42 a few days ago, with the commentator saying she likely celebrated “surrounded by the people she loves the most – her family”.

She added: “I wish I could predict a sparkly surprise from Prince William but he doesn’t get anything past the Princess of Wales these days.

“She knows him like the back of her hand!”
