Princess Kate to be given special honour as she misses major St Patrick's Day event

Princess Kate is set to be honoured with a touching gesture at this year’s Irish Guards St Patrick’s Day Parade, as she is not able to attend in person.

The Princess is Colonel of the Irish Guards, but due to her ongoing recovery from abdominal surgery she still has not returned to public-facing royal duties.

Soldiers at the annual ceremony this Sunday will give her “three cheers” in her absence, and they will be sending her their best wishes for a speecy recovery.

Kate became honorary Colonel of the Irish Guards in 2022 following the death of Queen Elizabeth II, and although it is unusual for a member of the Royal Family not to be present at the parade it is not unprecedented.

According to People magazine, the three cheers will come towards the end of the celebration, which will take place at Mons Barracks in Hampshire.

Kensington Palace have reiterated in a statement that Kate is continuing to recover well, as she is due to be back on royal duty sometime after Easter.

It is unconfirmed whether she will be well enough to attend the royal Easter Sunday service at Windsor on March 31, a private family event.

In January it was announced that the Princess had undergone a successful procedure at The London Clinic, from where she was discharged after nearly two weeks.

Speculation has been stirring over the exact nature of Kate’s condition as she has not been seen in public since Christmas Day at Sandringham last year.

However an insider told People: “The rumour mill — particularly on social media — has gotten out of control, but Kate is recovering well and she will be back by Easter. She just needs to be left in peace.”

Last Sunday the Palace shared a picture of Kate and her three children Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis to celebrate Mother’s Day.

But by Sunday night the picture was being pulled by several agencies over concerns it had been doctored, with several flaws found in the image.

In a statement put out the next day Kate admitted to editing the picture, as she said: “Like many amateur photographers, I do occasionally experiment with editing.

“I wanted to express my apologies for any confusion the family photograph we shared yesterday caused. I hope everyone celebrating had a very happy Mother’s Day. C.”
