The Princess of Wales is tipped to reach out to Prince Harry and Meghan Markle this Christmas, according to a formal royal staffer.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have been estranged from the Royal Family since they stepped down as senior working royals in 2020, with the couple last joining the Firm for the festivities in December 2018.

Harry’s frosty relationship with the Firm was evident recently when he and his brother Prince William refused to come together for the Diana Award this month – a charity set up in memory of their mother – and separately congratulated the winners.

Meanwhile, sources have claimed that Harry and Meghan were not invited to Sandringham this year, with the couple expected to spend their holidays in Montecito, California, where they reside. However, these reports have not been confirmed.

Now Grant Harrold, King Charles’s former butler during 2004 – 2011, suggested that Princess Kate could reach out to the estranged Montecito couple and possibly get in a FaceTime call with them over the Christmas period.

Speaking on behalf of Slingo, Mr Harrold said: “I believe that Catherine will reach out to Harry and Meghan and wish them a Happy Christmas and I think Harry and Meghan themselves will possibly reach out.

“The thing about Christmas is that it’s all about goodwill to others, letting bygones be bygones, forgetting the past, moving into the new Year.

“So if there’s any point in the year that the families are going to communicate or touch base, it’s going to be over Christmas – there’s something magical about Christmas that gets families back together.”

The expert added that despite the ongoing royal feud, the past year, which has been challenging, health-wise, for the royals, may end on a more positive note as “things are moving in the right direction”.

King Charles and the Princess of Wales were both diagnosed with cancer, while Queen Camilla has recently been battling the lingering effects of pneumonia.

Mr Harrold added: “I’d like to think that they will all be communicating, whether that is done by text calls or FaceTime – I’d like to think FaceTime, but that’s something we will never know.

“I like to think deep down that things are moving in the right direction.

“I have a feeling that they are. I really do think they are, but that’s just my personal feeling.”
