Princess Kate set to be discharged from hospital in days – why we won’t see her leave

The Princess of Wales is set to be discharged from The London Clinic in Marylebone within the next few days – but we won’t see her for a while. Earlier this month, Kensington Palace confirmed that the Princess of Wales had undergone abdominal surgery at the London-based hospital.

The statement released by Kensington Palace did not reveal any further details of Princess Kate’s condition, but did confirm that she would remain in hospital for up to a fortnight.

Although the royal will be out of hospital very soon, the public are not expected to see her leave – unlike after her past hospital admissions.

Princess Kate, 42, is expected to continue her recovery at home in Windsor.

The royal has been pictured leaving hospital on many occasions, such as after receiving treatment for hyperemesis gravidarum when she was pregnant with Prince George in 2012.

She was also famously pictured outside of the Lindo Wing after the births of all three of her children – Prince George in 2013, Princess Charlotte in 2015 and Prince Louis in 2018.

However, unlike these hospital visits, details of Kate’s current condition has been largely kept under wraps.

This is likely to continue whilst she continues her recovery in Windsor.

Speaking to HELLO!, royal correspondent Danielle Stacey said: “Given that the exact nature of the Princess of Wales’s condition is being private, I doubt we will see her make a public exit from the hospital.

“Kate has undergone major surgery and has spent a lengthy time in hospital, and like anybody else, she will probably be keen to return home discreetly to Windsor to see her children and recuperate at the family’s home.”

Kensington Palace issued their surprise statement on January 17, which read: “Her Royal Highness The Princess of Wales was admitted to The London Clinic yesterday for planned abdominal surgery.

“The surgery was successful and it is expected that she will remain in hospital for ten to fourteen days, before returning home to continue her recovery.”

The statement also confirmed that the Princess of Wales will be unlikely to return to duties until “after Easter”.

It also revealed that no further updates would be given unless there is “significant new information to share”.

Shortly after the Princess of Wales’s statement was released, Buckingham Palace shared that the King was also due to undergo surgery.

The King was admitted to the same hospital as Princess Kate earlier today – January 26 – for treatment for an enlarged prostate.
