Princess Kate is known for protecting her private life carefully – but let her guard down chatting with well-wishers on Christmas Day.

Stopping to speak to members of the public, Kate, Princess of Wales opened up about her cancer journey while speaking to those who has come to watch the Royal Family at Sandringham.

In a two-word statement, Kate said how she was “hugely grateful” for the hard work of healthcare workers in the field.

The comments came as she spoke to one woman who had worked for Macmillan Cancer Support who told Kate that she is an “inspiration to all patients”.

Kate said: “The amount of people who have written this year is extraordinary and I think cancer just really does resonate with so many families.

“People like you are doing all the hard work out there. I’m hugely grateful.”

The Princess was gifted flowers and cards as she spent time greeting as many people as she could on the annual festive walk after church service back to Sandringham House.

The Princess of Wales, 42, beamed from ear to ear as she stepped out on Christmas morning wearing a green coat by Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen.

She perfectly matched it with a formal hat and a blue and green chequered scarf. Wrapping up warm on the chilly morning down in Norfolk, she completed her look with black, suede, knee-high boots.

Kate’s father-in-law, King Charles, 76, will continue his treatment into 2025, which is “moving in a positive direction” while Kate, 42, completed chemotherapy in September, and is making a gradual return to her public-facing duties.

‘Together at Christmas’ carol service reflected upon the importance of love and empathy, and how much we need each other, especially in the most difficult times of our lives.

Kensington Palace said the service aimed to shine a light on individuals from all over the UK who have shown love, kindness and empathy towards others in their communities.

This year were 45 members of the Royal Family expected for Christmas festivities at Sandringham this year. Previously, William had revealed: “We’ll be 45 for Christmas. It won’t be quiet, it will be noisy.”

When asked whether he was prepared for the chaos, William replied: “Am I ready for Christmas? No, no way am I ready.”

Despite rumours Harry’s uncle, Earl of Spencer, was inviting Harry and Meghan over for a Christmas in the UK, the couple remained in America with their two children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, and it is thought they spent time with Meghan’s mum, Doria Ragland.
