Since deciding to step down as working royals in 2020, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have made a number of claims against the Royal Family, on a variety of platforms, including Netflix, TV interviews, and even a bombshell memoir.
Most notably, the couple released a Netflix docuseries titled ‘Harry & Meghan’ which aired on December 8, 2022, in which the Duchess of Sussex claimed she purposefully chose not to wear bright colours or similar colours to the senior royals, to avoid clashing.
Instead, she opted for a basic colour palette of “camel, beige” and “white”, deliberately going for more muted tones.
Royal watchers, however, noted Princess Kate and Zara Tindall may have sent a subtle message to Meghan Markle when stepping out for Kate’s Christmas Carol concert at Westminster Abbey in 2022, to show this was in fact, an incorrect statement.
During one episode of the docuseries, Meghan said: “To my understanding, you can’t ever wear the same colour as Her Majesty if there’s a group event.”
She added: “But then you also should never be wearing the same colour as one of the other more senior members of the family.”
As reported in the Mirror, Meghan’s theory turned on its head when Princess Kate chose to wear a festive deep burgundy coat with two striking buttons by designer Eponine London. The rest of the Royal Family also wore a similar colour, with Zara Tindall wearing a striking coat in the same shade to support the Princess.
Princess Kate’s only daughter, Princess Charlotte, also donned burgundy hues, and wore black Mary Jane shoes, while her mum accessorised her outfit with a burgundy clutch bag and heels.
Pippa Matthews, Kate’s sister, also sported a coat in the same colour palette to support her sister and her wider family. Supporting their wives, the royal men also wore burgundy, with Prince William and Mike Tindall both wearing ties in the same shade.
This service was the first of its kind attended by the siblings, who arrived at the abbey in central London holding hands with Kate and William.
The Christmas carol service, spearheaded by the Princess of Wales was held to recognise the selfless efforts of individuals and groups up and down the country who have gone above and beyond to help their community.
This 2022 service was also dedicated to Queen Elizabeth II, and the values Her Majesty demonstrated throughout her life, including duty, empathy, faith, service, kindness, compassion and support for others.
The former Suits TV actress also claimed during her last week as a working royal, she wanted to look “like a rainbow” so she chose bright colours for events.
Express.co.uk spoke to personal stylist and fashion expert Lindsay Edwards who said: “It would seem that Meghan’s decision to wear bright colours during her final week as a working royal was a consciously crafted decision.”
