Princess Diana’s favourite restaurant opening its doors after being closed for four years

Princess Diana’s “favourite” London-based restaurant is set to reopen after being closed for the past four years.

Le Caprice, an iconic restaurant in London, was also a firm favourite amongst other members of the Royal Family including the late Princess Margaret.

Hollywood stars such as Mick Jagger and Sir Elton John were also past regular attendees at the restaurant.

Following Covid restrictions in 2020, La Caprice was forced to close its doors in what was thought to be a permanent move.

British businessman Richard Caring will, however, reopen the iconic restaurant at The Chancery Rosewood on Grosvenor Square.

Le Caprice was originally first opened in 1947 on Arlington Street.

It was then taken over from Mario Gallati by Jeremy King and Chris Corbin.

In 2020, a spokesperson for the restaurant stated: “Le Caprice has occupied the current site for 38 years and now the lease is coming to an end.

“The iconic restaurant within the London dining scene will be reborn at a new location currently under negotiation.

“We thank our clientele for their loyalty and support over the years and assure them that they will be as excited as us with the new plans for this historic brand.”

The planned new location at Grosvenor Square is surrounded by 5-star hotels such as Claridge’s – as well as being a short walk from The Ritz.

Richard Caring, who is the chairman of Caprice Holdings, also owns and operates The Ivy chain of restaurants.

According to Sky News, Mr Caring is considering selling a major stake of his Ivy collection of restaurants – after being approached by bankers in a deal that could value around £1billion.

According to the Daily Mail’s Richard Eden’s article, a source said: “It’s going to be fascinating to see who will go to Le Caprice and who will go to the old ‘Caprice’.”

Princess Kate’s sister Pippa Middleton was also spotted at Le Caprice in 2013.
