Princess Beatrice’s choice of a name for her baby daughter could be a tribute to her father, Prince Andrew, reports have claimed.
The Princess of York gave birth to Athena Elizabeth Rose Mapelli Mozzi on Wednesday, January 22, at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital in London.
Beatrice was due to give birth in early spring. However, her baby daughter came a few weeks early, with both Buckingham Palace and her husband Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi, sharing the joyous news on Wednesday.
Buckingham Palace said that mother and baby are healthy, doing well and are now at home.
Athena has two older siblings, three-year-old Sienna Elizabeth Mapelli Mozzi, and Edo’s son and Beatrice’s stepson, eight-year-old Christopher Woolf “Wolfie”.
According to Hello!, Beatrice could have followed a sweet family tradition when it came to choosing a name for her new baby.
Like her older sister, Athena’s second name is an obvious tribute to Beatrice’s beloved grandmother, the late Queen Elizabeth.
But back in 2021, a source told the outlet one of the reasons behind Sienna’s first name, which could be attributed to Athena’s first name too.
They claimed that Sienna was inspired Beatrice’s mother, Sarah Ferguson and Edo’s Italian background.
They said: “They were looking for an Italian name which started with an S for Sarah, to honour the Duchess [of York].”
According to the outlet, “therefore it could be suggested that Athena could be a tribute to Beatrice’s father Prince Andrew, which also begins with an A.”
Fergie, as she is known to friends and family, issued an adorable statement following the birth of her granddaughter.
She wrote on social media: “Overflowing with love and joy to be able to welcome Athena Elizabeth Rose into the world.She is already so adored and I’m incredibly blessed to be a Granny once again. So proud of Edo, Beatrice and the rest of my little 5-a-side team.”
