While William, 42, has not publicly spoken about his estranged younger brother’s interview, sources close to the Prince of Wales told The Daily Beast that Harry and Meghan behaviour has been “absolutely vile.”
They also said Harry’s interview showed “he has no interest in reconciling”. Prince William’s friend said: “If he did, a period of silence would have been the right thing to do.”
Prince William and King Charles, along with other senior royals, have continued their public duties since Harry’s interview on Friday and have put on a united front.
While Harry’s interview is likely to have been disliked by William, it is believed the two princes have not been on speaking terms since Harry released his memoir Spare in 2023.
Harry, who has lived in California with Meghan and their two children for the last five years, hinted at the rift caused by his memoir in the BBC interview.
He said: “Of course some members of my family will never forgive me for writing a book, of course they will never forgive me for lots of things, but I would love reconciliation with my family.”
Harry also claimed his court appeal over his security was one of the reasons behind the divide with his family, claiming that the King “won’t speak” to him over the matter.
Buckingham Palace released a statement after Harry’s interview last week but did not address any of the claims surrounding a family rift, instead focusing on the outcome of the duke’s court appeal regarding his security.
The Palace said: “All of these issues have been examined repeatedly and meticulously by the courts, with the same conclusion reached on each occasion.”
