Prince William’s firm message to Princess Kate during her recovery

Prince William has issued a firm message to Princess Kate during her recovery as she remains in hospital following planned surgery.

Following the hospitalisation of the future Queen on January 17, William postponed all of his royal duties. Royal expert Jennie Bond told OK! she believes this is a clear message to Kate he is putting her first.

She explained: “William choosing not to do engagements is completely in line with their view that they make the family the most important thing as much as they possibly can.

“They prioritise their family life, and I always applaud them for doing that. This is a time when the kids are going to need their dad more than ever, with their mum in hospital, so he’s going to be there to reassure them.”

Soon after the surgery was announced, Kate’s Easter royal duties were cancelled on the basis of “the current medical advice”.

Kate’s recovery from her surgery is the subject of great discussion with no fixed date planned for her return to the royal frontline.

While the princess recovers, some royal commentators believe she may take the time to take up or relearn a new hobby.

Another theory is that she could take up knitting, an act she has previously admitted to struggling with. Her tete-a-tete with knitting is well known, in a 2013 visit to Glasgow she told fans: “I’ve been trying to knit and I’m really bad. I should be asking for tips!”

Later, in 2020, she explained what happened soon after she had Prince George. She said: “I tried knitting when I first had George. I tried to knit him a very special jumper, but I got halfway down and it splattered. It’s such an amazing skill.

While Kate’s recovery is a subject of great discussion, she isn’t the only royal who has medical news.

Soon after her surgery was announced, it was revealed that King Charles was having prostate surgery at the same hospital.

In a statement on Friday morning, Buckingham Palace said: “The King was this morning admitted to a London hospital for scheduled treatment.

“His Majesty would like to thank all those who have sent their good wishes over the past week and is delighted to learn that his diagnosis is having a positive impact on public health awareness.”

Alongside King Charles and Princess Kate, Sarah Ferguson, the Duchess of York has recently been diagnosed with an aggressive form of skin cancer just months after she received treatment for breast cancer.

A spokesperson for the Duchess said: “Following her diagnosis with an early form of breast cancer [last] summer, Sarah, Duchess of York has now been diagnosed with malignant melanoma.

“Her dermatologist asked that several moles were removed and analysed at the same time as the Duchess was undergoing reconstructive surgery following her mastectomy, and one of these has been identified as cancerous.

“She is undergoing further investigations to ensure that this has been caught in the early stages. Clearly, another diagnosis so soon after treatment for breast cancer has been distressing but the Duchess remains in good spirits.”
