Prince William has swapped his usual tailored suit for military uniform this morning, as he visits the 1st Battalion Welsh Guards at Salisbury Plain.
The Welsh Guards are currently carrying out live firing training as they transition back from ceremonial duties l to Field Army – and the prince got involved with an exercise on his visit this morning.
William, who is colonel of the regiment, fired a .338 sniper rifle and a 7.62 GPMG during the exercise.
During his visit, the prince will see how the Welsh Guards have been transitioning back and how the training will allow service personnel to understand how to use different to weapon systems to ensure safety, competency and knowledge of these systems.
For the past two years, the regiment has been involved in ceremonial duties, including Trooping their Colour, the King’s Coronation and the late Queen Elizabeth’s funeral.
During his visit today, The Prince will engage with Small Unscrewed Aerial Systems (sUAS) – Drones which provide significant advantage to commanders and soldiers on the ground.
