Prince William carried out a secret visit just hours before a key royal duty today, it has been revealed. The Court Circular stated that the royal set out for a low-key visit to a maritime special forces unit on Tuesday.
The royal, who underwent military training after university, visited the headquarters of the Special Boat Service (SBS), the Royal Navy’s answer to the SAS, which acts as an elite maritime counterterrorism unit.
Whilst no further details have been revealed, William is known to have worked with the SBS and the SAS in 2008. The royal, who was just 26 at the time, spent around ten days in the Caribbean with the force – which had been working to combat drug trafficking and piracy in the region.
William then began his training as a search and rescue pilot in 2009. After passing his exams with the Royal Air Force, he joined RAF Valley in Anglesey in September 2010.
As his major royal duty today, William, 43, will be hosting an investiture at Windsor Castle.
