Prince William will have quite a royal reunion this weekend when he heads to Switzerland to cheer on the Lionesses. The Prince of Wales will travel to Basel this Sunday to watch England play against Spain in the final, after the Lionesses beat Italy 2-1 in extra time this week.
But he won’t be the only royal showing support for his country, as the royal house of Spain confirmed that the Spanish heiress, Princess Leonor and her younger sister, Infanta Sofia, will also be in Basel to support their team. Spain’s Women’s National Football Team posted on X: “H.R.H. the Princess of Asturias and the Infanta Doña Sofía will accompany the @sefutbolfem in the final of the #WEURO2025.
“Representing the @CasaReal, they will attend the St. Jakob-Park in Basel to experience the match between England and Spain. #PlayFightAndWin”.
Spain beat Germany this week, just as the Lionesses stormed to victory against Italy.
William also watched the Lionesses compete against the Netherlands in Zurich earlier this month.
The future king, who is patron of the Football Association, had wished the players good luck before the tournament and helped to print names and numbers on their shirts when he presented match jerseys to the 23 squad members at St George’s Park last month.
After his appearance, royal fans urged the prince to be at “every England” game to bring good luck to our national football stars.
One user asked on X: “Can Prince William be at every England game? He’s the good luck charm!!”
Another person said: “Prince William has to go to every England match now, they won for him, well, there my thoughts anyway.”
A third one opined: “So Prince William is good luck for this team this tournament, then.”
A fourth fan wrote: “This means that Prince William is a good luck charm so needs to be at every England match in the future.”
Another one shared the same views, saying: “From this I now believe Prince William is a good luck charm so needs to be at any future games.”
