The Prince of Wales has made a hilarious confession regarding his football skills in a brand new interview. Prince William is patron of the Football Association, and regularly attends various matches in his off time, sometimes even bringing his eldest son, Prince George.
The future King was last night seen celebrating as he cheered on his favourite club, Aston Villa, during a Champions League match against Club Brugge, which they won. It is the first time Villa have been in the Champions League and they are targeting the club’s first top-flight European trophy since they won the European Cup in 1982 – the year William was born. On Tuesday, he visited Aston Villa players at their training ground at Bodymoor Heath.
While there, the prince made various revelations about the sport, including who the “best footballer” is – and the answer may or may not surprise you.
William took part in a quickfire Q&A with The Sun and was asked difficult questions about the sport.
He also revealed that he had previously injured himself while trying to Cristiano Ronaldo’s famous celebration in a kickaround in his back garden.
The prince picked the Portuguese footballer’s Siu routine as the celebration for his ideal fantasy footballer.
Aston Villa defender Tyrone Mings, who was present at the training ground, asked: “Have you recreated it a few times in the garden?”
William laughed, saying: “Well, obviously! And then I do a hammy [hamstring].”
During the interview’s Football Legends – Head 2 Head game questions, the prince was asked to choose who he would pick in a shoot-out between French legend Zinedine Zidane and England star and pal David Beckham.
He said: “This is going to hurt. Becks, I think, just.”
But, according to the outlet, there was no hesitation when choosing Brazilian Ronaldo over the former England and Man United winger, although he found deciding between retired Ronaldo and Lionel Messi more diffucult.
William said: “These are really tricky ones… Messi.”
He chose Messi again when asked to choose between him and Cristiano Ronaldo.
The prince said: “Gotta be Messi, just.”
