Prince William made a hilarious admission about his school days on Thursday as he visited laboratories with Hollywood star Cate Blanchett. The Prince of Wales, 42, stepped out with the actress at the Norwich headquarters of UK-based company Colorifix to find out how they make sustainable clothing dye.
The future King was all smiles on the visit as he sported a lab coat to find out all about how Colorifix make the dye. As he was told about certain parts of the process, the prince looked intrigued and made a suggestion that he wasn’t always an avid listener in school.
As reported by Hello!, after learning about the technical DNA sequencing of natural colours, William said: “Today has just made me realise I should have listened in all of my chemistry lessons.”
The dad-of-three then said: “Going back over all those old notes like, ‘Damn, why didn’t I pay more attention’.”
The company- who made it as an Earthshot Prize finalist in 2023, an initiative founded by William to help regenerate the planet – has developed a biological process that replaces the use of harmful chemicals in textile dyes.
During his tour of the Colorifix labs, William and Cate saw each step of the process and learnt about how scientists can create the dye and reduce environmental damage.
This is something the prince is passionate about, with the first-in-line to the throne having founded The Earthshot Prize in 2020 to help repair the planet and invest in solutions which can help achieve this.
Prince William’s admission about forgetting some chemistry knowledge yesterday wasn’t the first time he has hinted at not remembering much information from his school days.
In his documentary Football, Prince William and Our Mental Health, which was released in 2020 during the Covid-19 pandemic, William said to a group of football players over Zoom: “Homeschooling is fun, isn’t it?
“You start worrying how little you actually know from your school days when you literally can’t do the maths questions at home!’
